I just finished testing a brand new supplement blend from TJ Nutrition’s Vagus Nerve Support line called Parasym Plus and I’m really excited to tell you about all the wonderful changes I saw while taking it. I’m really hopeful about experiencing the relief of some symptoms I haven’t been able to improve for years, mainly associated with autonomic nervous system dysfunction.
I found that taking Parasym Plus works so well for me, I have teamed up with TJ nutrition to bring you this sponsored post and a special discount so you can try it, too! Read on to get your discount code!
It Started with My Worst Flare in Years
I just started taking Parasym Plus two weeks ago, while fighting a flare. Starting a new supplement mid-flare isn’t something that I wouldn’t normally do, but I felt desperate and the claims made by TJ Nutrition about how it can help were right in line with the symptoms that were torturing me the most; parasympathetic nervous system symptoms. I’m so glad I took a chance on Parasym Plus! It came to the rescue when I needed it the most by helping me pull out of my flare quickly and getting my tremors and dystonic attacks back to null. I didn’t even think it was possible for me to live without tremors anymore!
As every spoonie with ME/CFS knows, our flares usually feature increased memory and cognitive issues known as brain fog, increased fatigue, dizziness, migraine, anxiety, GI shutdown, and a whole lot of inflammation. For me, it’s also begun to feature an increase in tremors and dystonic attacks that are harrowing, to say the least. When I started taking Parasym Plus, I was in one of the worst flares I’ve experienced since I began my journey of healing with supplements, nutrition and movement. I felt like I did in 2014 when my only diagnosis was CFS and doctors told me there was simply nothing I could do. Those doctors loaded me up on so many drugs, I was stuck in a constant stupor with nothing to do but lay in the dark and plead for it all to end.
I’d done way too much activity, allowed myself to get way too stressed out and had exposed myself to a multitude of MCAS triggers that made my histamine bucket overflow. My current regimen couldn’t stand up to the beating I was putting my body through daily. Of course it can’t. If you aren’t taking care of yourself, no amount of supplementation will save you if you have a genetic disorder. The right supplements can make you feel markedly better, though, especially when you find something new that works really well.
Parasym Plus to the Rescue!
Parasym Plus is exactly what I needed at that moment. I noticed a difference in my fatigue levels on day one. On day 2, my inflammation dropped dramatically. I lost 7 pounds in the first 24 hours. It makes perfect sense. Ten extra pounds showed up on the scale when I arrived home from my 1200 mile trip, so I know exactly where that weight came from; it was inflammation caused by all those triggers. It only took 24 hours for my GI swelling to decrease, making it possible for my GI tract to begin functioning almost normally within just a few days.
My migraines, which had been persisting daily finally dulled down to headaches before finally disappearing. I saw some improvement in my dizzy spells and my field of vision began to clear of all the detritus that’s been floating around it for years. I no longer began to feel drained by simple actions like speaking or typing. Within 4 days I was able to return to a regimen of light exercise and some light housekeeping. Perhaps most amazing to me, my tremors calmed and within a week, they were completely gone. I can actually move my hands with precision! Better yet, my brain fog is at an all-time low and continues to improve over time. I’m not struggling nearly so much with finding the right words or keeping track of things. Even my husband noticed the difference in both my personality and my cognition.
So you can see for yourself what a difference it made, watch these two videos. The first one was shot during a terrible flare-up that brought on my tremors for the first time. They never stopped until I took Parasym Plus; they only varied in intensity. The stunted speech you hear is part of my tremors and fluctuates wildly, as well. I was experiencing the same things in this flare, yet look at me in the next video. The second was shot after my first two weeks on Parasym Plus! Note how easily and naturally my speech comes to me now, no tremors and no confusion! It’s easy to tell the brain fog has been lifted, because I have no trouble organizing my thoughts and all the ummms and aahhhhs that creep in while I’m usually trying to get my thoughts in line simply aren’t there anymore!
Why Parasym Plus Works:
Why does Parasym Plus work and how did it decrease all of those symptoms? Looking over the research provided on the Vagus Nerve Support website, it’s clear the primary action of the ingredients in Parasym Plus raises the levels of acetylcholine. It’s complex, but the researchers explained it well:
“The link between CFS/ME and acetylcholine has been subject of ongoing research with particular attention to potential autoimmune conditions that could affect acetylcholine receptors. For example, some researchers found autoantibodies against muscarinic cholinergic receptors in over half of people with CFS/ME.
Spence, Khan, and Belch showed that patients with CFS/ME have abnormalities in the acetylcholine (cholinergic) system. The researchers showed the acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, edrophonium, applied to the skin reacts abnormally in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. The same research group has confirmed the results of their research in several papers.
Yamamoto, et al (2012) used a radioactive agent that specifically binds to muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the brain. They report decreased levels of receptors in the brain, but normal activity of acetylcholinesterase. Taken together, these results suggest an interesting possibility that explains the disparate findings of all of these researchers: CFS/ME patients may have abnormally low levels of acetylcholine.
If this hypothesis was true, one could treat many symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome by increasing acetylcholine levels within the synapse. Indeed, researchers have attempted to do this very thing. Kawamura and co-authors report three cases in which a small dose of oral pyridostigmine, an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor which increases acetylcholine levels in synapses, improved symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome. Many patients with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) have improved gastrointestinal symptoms (gastroparesis, constipation) with the use of pyridostigmine.”Genetic Disease Investigators, LLC
While I was struggling terribly with a wide variety of symptoms, Parasym Plus really helped to restore me back to my regular baseline fast, with added energy and mental clarity I haven’t enjoyed on even my best days in a long time. I can’t wait to see what it does for me long term! I feel that Parasym Plus not only did the things the bottle and website claim. By cutting through my inflammation fast, it did a lot more, like reducing my healing time. Full disclosure, I also upped some of my other meds, too. It helps shorten my flares when I do this, but not so dramatically and it certainly does nothing for the symptoms which Parasym Plus has relieved, because some of them I always live with, regardless of my current dosages on everything else.
The ingredients in Parasym Plus really work, both because of quality ingredients that do what they say, but also because they put in doses that are ideal for treating Acute Acytelcholinergic Syndrome, which some people with ME/CFS and/or dysautonomia may have.
The only thing that’s come close to treating my tremors and brain fog as well is Acetyl l-carnitine. This is no surprise, given it holds a very special place in Parasym Plus’ proprietary blend. Stupidly, I stopped taking it some time ago. But acetyl l-carnitine alone can’t do what the proprietary blend in Parasym Plus does, which is why I eventually drifted away from using it. It helped, just not enough. This convinces me that everything in Parasym Plus is essential to addressing these issues in totality.
As excited as I am about Parasym Plus, its also not a total solution for relieving all my many spoonie problems, only those discussed. Of course great things can happen when you get inflammation under control. It certainly seemed to shorten my recovery time in addition to the things I normally do to try to pull out of them a little faster. It has definitely improved my symptoms of brain fog, fatigue, tremors, and delayed gastric emptying, as well. I’ve also felt some additional relief for my anxiety which inevitably rears it’s ugly head when I’m flaring, even if I have it under generally good control on my avergae days. For someone greatly affected by her nervous system dysfunction, that’s huge. Still, as much as it’s helped with these things, it probably won’t do much for things like my MCAS symptoms and EDS dislocations, though the anti-inflammatory properties could help in ways I’m not yet sure about.
If you suffer fatigue and dysautonomia as part of your conditions just like me, it could be an indication of poor absorption or conversion of acetylcholine, making Parasym Plus a great option to try. Given the prevalence of the MTHFR mutations found in MCAS, EDS, Dysautonomia and ME/CFS populations, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find that poor nutrient conversion and absorbency lies at the root of these issues for many of us.
Of course safety is always on my mind when I share what’s worked for me, so I want to remind you that any and all medication changes should be discussed with your medical team first. This product may not be right for every spoonie with chronic fatigue and dysautonomia. It was born based on the idea that acute anticholengeric syndrome (AAS), is a prevalent factor contributing to 39 of the commonly reported symptoms of ME/CFS, (Genetic Disease Investigators, LLC), but it’s possible this mechanism isn’t always at play.
If you’re concerned about a reaction or incompatibility with your system, I am happy to report that I experienced no adverse reactions with Parasym Plus (despite being in a state of histamine overload). Only quality ingredients are used and TJ’s standards are quite strenuous. Of course the best comfort when taking something new is the knowledge that you’re protected by their 30 day money back guarantee. Based on my own experience, I’d say 30 days is more than ample time to know if Parasym Plus is right for you.
The knowledge that it was developed by Diana Driscoll, a doctor who herself has ME/CFS, was enough to convince me to try it in the first place. The scientific evidence and results of my trial are what proved to me that it works and needs to become a regular part of my protocol. It’s not every day that an over-the-counter supplement is so strongly supported by science.
