Before we get started, it’s important to note that this is an affiliate sponsored post for which The Zebra Pit will make a commission on purchases through some of the links I provide. Being an affiliate aids in The Zebra Pit’s operating costs and helps me to test more products and review a variety of products for the improvement of the many symptoms prevalent in the TZP community. As many in the community can tell you, I never allow this to affect the choices I make in what companies and products to build my affiliations with. Only those products which have made a significant impact during my testing phase get reviewed on TZP.

Me sharing the wonderful benefits of EmeraldLeaf CBD Tincture.

I’ve searched for years for the right CBD products to review on The Zebra Pit. I had begun to think what I wanted didn’t exist. Turns out it didn’t, until EmeraldLeaf came along. When an EmeraldLeaf marketing executive contacted me about partnering with TZP, I could tell he was genuinely excited about helping chronic pain patients access this exciting new product. When I began researching their product, I could easily understand why.

First and foremost, when I’ve researched and tried CBD oils in the past, I was looking for a product that wouldn’t trigger degranulation of my mast cells. It’s a terribly low bar that so many fail to meet by using bad carrier oils and unnatural or harmful additives. Nothing is worse than trying something that seems promising for mitigating the symptoms of my MCAS and many other conditions only to find out they’ve included other ingredients my body can’t tolerate. Of course the biggest dilemma of my search was finding a smartly made, completely natural full spectrum product that attempts to capture more of the healing and pain relieving goodness of its cousin.

After years of searching, I’ve finally met my hemp derived CBD oil match. EmeraldLeaf filled every wish I ever had for a CBD tincture. It couldn’t be more perfect if I made it myself. After we talk a bit about the general properties of hemp, we’ll do a deep dive on this product’s ingredients to find out why.

Even More Benefits

Mast cell mediation is only one of many things hemp can do, based on testing. As I mentioned earlier, it’s a very effective pain reliever, anti-inflammatory, anti-emetic, sleep aid and mood stabilizer. It’s also shown great promise in testing that it can reduce acne, benefit heart health, and may work for some as a natural anti-psychotic. It can even aid people in recovery from addiction, help prevent diabetes and even shows promise as an anti-tumor agent.

Do We Get Everything We Need from Most CBD Oils?

CBD can be very helpful and I suspect we’ve really only uncovered the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what it can do for us. After all, we’re really still just beginning to explore our cannabinoid receptor system: However, there are many other beneficial, healing substances in hemp than CBD.

Before I agreed to trial these oils, I did some research to ensure they offered what I was looking for. I discovered their product is of very good quality, free from any objectionable ingredients, and very sound in their approach to treating the kind of symptoms that plague people with EDS, MCAS, Fibromyalgia and ME/CFS, among many others. I asked them if I could get a sample of their CBD oil and told them which kind I felt would benefit me the most. They went above and beyond. When I received my package I was amazed to find three full size products, including one of each formula. This way, I could experience the differences between each one.

Terpenes and the Entourage Effect

Our endocannabinoid receptor system responds to CBD, but it also responds to many of the other chemicals and substances contained within hemp, such as its minimal THC content and terpenes. In order to enjoy the entourage effect, you need all of these elements to be present so they can work in concert.

Listening to the clarinet alone may be nice for some, but music is often more lively and enjoyable when the whole band plays along. It is the same with the interaction of terpenes, a full spectrum CBD profile and the .3% or less of THC which differentiates CBD from its cousin.

It's when CBD is coupled with some of its other tried and true cannabis friends that the magic really happens.
While the body has other uses for terpenes, the ERS can’t recognize terpenes without CBD

Of course, it’s more complicated than that, as it always is in science and we must understand what terpenes do in order to put it all together. Terpenes are technically any of a large group of volatile unsaturated hydrocarbons found in the essential oils of many fruits and vegetables, especially conifers and citrus trees. In laymen’s terms, they are what create the smell and taste of some of our favorite foods and botanicals; the scent of pine that gets us through the cold winter months, the heady smell of freshly squeezed orange juice, the lovely lemon scent of your furniture wax and the essential oils likely used in some of your body care products.

Like these other plants and their fruit, terpenes are responsible for the strong aromatic profiles of each strain. Terpenes are what differentiate one strain to the next and give it its unique profile. They contribute also contribute heavily to flavor, and the benefits it provides.

Like Cannabinoids, terpenes are detected and used by our endocannabinoid receptor system, but they have to be consumed with CBD or our ERS doesn’t really know what to do with them. Conversely, without terpenes, Our ERS also ends up missing out on some of CBD’s best, most healing effects.

This is why EmeraldLeaf, while using only hemp to make their tinctures, adds specific terpenes to each blend, thus maximizing the healing benefits of their CBD. Each terpene provides different benefits, while also improving the flavor and smell of the oil. Each CBD oil is modeled after a specific strain with tried and true benefits, each kind providing specific forms of relief. For more detailed information, check out the graphic below.

While EmeraldLeaf includes over a dozen terpenes in each of their oils, they’ve ensured there are heavy concentrations of the right type of terpenes in each. These dominant terpenes then work together with the others to create the overall desired effect of each blend. Let’s get into some specifics that will help you understand what each one does, along with my own impressions.

EmeraldLeaf Grandaddy Purple

If you're already a CBD user, you probably already understand the benefits of taking CBD oil for your chronic illness. Not only can it reduce pain and inflammation, it can help quell anxiety and depression, induce sleep, quell vomiting and nausea, and so much more. Grandaddy Purple, organic full spectrum and strain specific hemp derived CBD Tincture

EmeraldLeaf Grandaddy Purple Body Tincture is modeled after a classic indica strain of the same name. Grandaddy Purple is a tried and true strain for people with insomnia, anxiety and chronic pain. Grandaddy Purple CBD Oil contains over 29% myrcene for relaxation, with lesser amounts of beta-caryophylline, alpha-pinene and linalool to reduce pain, anxiety and inflammation. Pinine is also thought to aid the respiratory system, so it’s a great addition for anyone suffering asthma, allergies and those conditions that directly affect the lungs.

I took Grandaddy Purple Tincture at least once a day when my joints and muscles ached from inactivity and atrophy, at the height of my long COVID symptoms, when sleep was hard to find and pain was in abundance. It provided near immediate relief of my muscle and joint aches for several hours and helped significantly with my ability to fall sleep and sleep longer.

I felt more refreshed the next day. While it couldn’t knock out my migraines, it did a good job of bringing the pain down to bearable levels, during a time when nothing, short of a 12 day prednisone taper, could. It also helped with the number and intensity of my asthma attacks. At the time, I was having them almost daily, but every day I took Grandaddy Purple turned into a vacation from my inhaler, though all three tinctures helped. Not surprising given their anti-inflammatory properties and CBDs ability to decrease histamine levels, as well.

EmeraldLeaf Jack Herer

If you're already a CBD user, you probably already understand the benefits of taking CBD oil for your chronic illness. Not only can it reduce pain and inflammation, it can help quell anxiety and depression, induce sleep, quell vomiting and nausea, and so much more. What may surprise you is that your CBD oil could be doing a lot more for you than it already is. Jack Herer by EmeraldLeaf provides an uplifting experience while still combating your worst symptoms

The Jack Herer Mind Tincture is fashioned after the popular sativa strain named after legalization activist Jack Herer. Jack Herer is what some would call daytime weed, since it has a tendency to boost energy levels and clear the mind. It makes it much easier to focus and concentrate and is world’s better than the indica strains and their enervating effects when you’re trying to tackle life. Jack Herer contains more than 23% of an energizing terpene called terpinolene, as well as beta-caryophylline, limonene and myrcine to calm anxiety and relieve pain. While 2-carene offers both anti-inflammatory and bone healing properties.

It is with this tincture that I was finally able to finish my Long-Covid post as well as this one. It definitely offered me relief of pain and inflammation while boosting my energy levels. It also allowed me to concentrate on my task and I can tell my cognitive issues have improved some, though I admit I’m still struggling quite a lot with jumbled thinking because I’ve been on so many H1s trying to control my MCAS.

In any account, it’s really helped me to work my way back toward being productive, managing household finances, writing or taking care of other business needs and I’m confident the rest will come. If you suffer anxiety, an inability to focus due to ADHD or PTSD, Jack Herer will likely serve you and your productivity levels quite well. And hey, it’s really nice not to have to ask my partner to rewind the show or movie we’re watching because my mind drifted off AGAIN. Even my knitting is more accurate and consistent.

EmeraldLeaf Sunset Sherbet

If you're already a CBD user, you probably already understand the benefits of taking CBD oil for your chronic illness. Not only can it reduce pain and inflammation, it can help quell anxiety and depression, induce sleep, quell vomiting and nausea, and so much more. What may surprise you is that your CBD oil could be doing a lot more for you than it already is. Sunset Sherbet provides the best balance between alertness and symptom control

The Sunset Sherbet Tincture offers a great Balance between Jack Herer and Grandaddy Purple effects. It offers the best of both worlds for days where you really need to get things done, but your symptoms have other ideas about what you should be doing. It also has an added bonus or two over the other two tinctures. Limonene is prominently featured in Sunset Sherbet not only because it’s stress-relieving. It can also protect against tumors and cancer, prevent weight gain and help with neuropathic pain. It also contains notable amounts of beta-caryophylline, myrcene and linalool for general pain relief, as well as anxiety and stress relief. Fenchol, which exhibits antibacterial, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties adds to Sunset Sherbet’s uniqueness.

I especially appreciated its ability to quell my neuropathic pain and provide relaxation and pain relief while providing a little added energy. What blew my mind about Sunset Sherbet and Jack Herer is how relaxing they can be while simultaneously providing energy. To someone with PTSD, dysautonomia and quite possibly ADHD, it’s a unique experience and a bit shocking to realize you can have energy without feeling positively manic.

If personal experience isn’t enough to convince you, check out the independent laboratory testing which verifies the percentage of each type of terpenes contained in their blends.

Other Benefits of EmeraldLeaf CBD Oil

Each serving of these full spectrum blends contains a whopping 1,000mg of full spectrum CBD and Each vial of CBT oil contains 60 servings. What’s so great about full spectrum? You won’t get the benefits of the entourage effect without it. To be considered full spectrum a product must contain the plant’s entire CBD and terpene profile, as well as that tiny bit of THC mentioned earlier. That .3% is important; along with CBD and terpenes, this minimal amount of THC allows for a complete entourage effect, while skipping the psychoactive effects higher doses can create.

In addition to ingesting these oils, I’ve also used them as a rub to help calm inflammation and get my joints back in place. The anti-inflammatory effects work in a matter of moments, providing full pain relief and an easy return of partial-dislocations simple and pain-free. The angry beehive of pain on my right foot, a result of my lumbar spine surgery becomes barely noticeable with ingestine.

Taking these oils is easy, as they all come with measurement droppers that allow for easy measuring of a .5 ml dose, which should be emptied beneath the tongue and left to sit for 10-15 seconds before swallowing. Instead of swallowing, I decided to swish it around my teeth and gums, a practice that’s become the norm for me because of the immediate relief of my chronic mouth pain.

My gums also seem to soak it up with ease, leaving little left to swallow.. These effects seem no small feat with gum disease, the breaking down of my connective tissue around my teeth due to hEDS, a painful loose tooth with nerve damage and chronic TMJD in my right jaw. Not only does it quell the pain, it allows me to eat in comfort, and reduces a great deal of the swelling in my gums while helping to keep the bacteria and yeast to a minimum.

It’s also calmed the amount of muscle spasms and parasthesias I experience, calming the muscles and soothing my misbehaving nerves. The benefits are many and I fear I’ve left some out, like it’s calming effects on my stomach, going so far as to help with my nausea and help create some hunger on bad tummy days.

The scents and flavors of forest and orchard in these blends definitely adds to the pleasure of these oils, Another reason I love this product is because EmeraldLeaf favors only the healthiest, most useful, organic ingredients, allowing the terpenes to provide the flavor of these oils.

Yet the benefits keep on coming. They not only figured out how to make their CBD better by making it a full spectrum, strain specific product, they use MCT as a carrier oil! This elevates these tinctures to a whole new level of wellness.

MCT Oil Benefits

MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) are a rare but healthy oil proven to increase weightloss by decreasing adipose fat. One study found “Endpoint trunk fat mass, total fat mass, and intraabdominal adipose tissue were all lower with MCT consumption than with olive oil consumption,” (St. Onge). There’s evidence that it can also help you burn fat over carbs during exercise, as well.

MCT oil contains ketones which can cross the blood-brain barrier, they provide instant fuel for your brain cells, something which can only be a good thing for sufferers of fibro fog. Studies have shown that MCT oil and a ketogenic diet may help manage conditions such as epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, and autism. It also contains fatty acids that fight yeast and bacterial growth. It can even help reduce the risk factors for heart disease and help control blood sugar.

The Benefits of MCT Oil by HQKeto.

I happened to have to get lab work several times while taking EmeraldLeaf. By my last lab, my blood sugar decreased. While I didn’t lose weight and don’t currently eat a ketogenic diet, it stopped the rapid weight gain I’ve been experiencing since last fall. What can I say? Stress, depression, an inability to cook and the grief of becoming bedbound after attempting to work and then COVID-19 have worked together to add back the 40 pounds I had lost. Luckily this product is encouraging me to turn things around and helping to keep the pounds off while I work my way back to a healthier diet.

I love that EmeraldLeaf so carefully considered each ingredient that goes into their CBD oil, using science as their guide to ensure they’ve created the healthiest, most effective product possible.

  1. That’s great! I also use CBD oil to manage my symptoms and at the moment, I’m quite satisfied with the effects. Rubbing it directly on my neck before going to sleep helps me to the point that I don’t wake up all stiff. I found out that using it topically as well as sublingually helps me the most and I’m more than thankful that I decided to try it.

  2. Hi Michelle,
Great review. It’s so hard to break down all the information into bite-size pieces. I also think there is so much information out there it can get very confusing, you did a good job of clearing up some questions I had.
Hope you are starting to feel better. Be sure to get enough, more than enough sleep.

    1. Hi Melinda! I’m glad it added some to your knowledge base. Writing it definitely added to mine. I am feeling considerably better, but I have a long way to go. I’m very carefully trying to keep my balance towards resting, healing and rebuilding my strength. I hope you’re well and having a good weekend! Xx

  3. VIDEO!! There’s our beautiful Mykieeeeee.

I love that little ‘like’ thing that pops up but I thought rude things when it keeps going up and down 😂

It’s interesting how different CBD products can be, even if they’re marketed in a similar fashion. You really do need to do your homework on the product and brand to see what it contains and how it was made, otherwise you’re paying potentially a lot of money for a poor quality or ineffective oil. I learned a lot when I first started investigating CBD so I’m more familiar now with the entourage effect and terpenes and THC and so on, so I know what to look for. If you’re new to CBD, this stuff can be so confusing – you’ve done a wonderful job explaining it all while reviewing this brand. I’ve been fortunate enough to try a CBD oil from Europe that’s excellent, also full spectrum.

It’s great EmeraldLeaf (can’t help but think that sounds like a cigarette brand!) have been able to produce a high quality product that also enhances the effects of the CBD so that consumers are going to get the best from their usage.

Amaaaazing review, you’ve done a fantastic job with this!

    1. Caz, I hope your rave review of my review 😁 means you caught it after I edited it. The fibro fog was apparently still pretty thick and I posted it prematurely. Embarrassing, but at least I know the community understands, since we all struggle with cognitive impairmentof some kind.

Anyway, I think I know of the company of which you speak, because I really wanted to work with them, but I don’t have a big enough European audience…. yet! 🙂 It is so sad how some companies do CBD. Good thing there are companies doing it right and that understand the value of what we do as CI bloggers. Thanks so much for the feedback and sharing this post! Xx
