Air quality can greatly affect the overall quality of our health. Whether you live in a large or small city, on a farm, in the plains or the desert, it seems there’s no way to escape the pollutants that fill our air indoors and out. These airborne pollutants can make breathing especially difficult for people with respiratory conditions from asthma and allergies to COPD and lung cancer. They can also protect your respiratory health, making it less likely that you’ll develop any of these conditions.

When I tested and reviewed a HEPA approved air purifier earlier this year, I was amazed by the difference it made in my MCAS and asthma symptoms. I was also surprised how much it improved the amount of dust laying around and how clean our home smells, with no toxic air fresheners needed.
When Okaysou asked if they could send me one of their air purifiers to try and review, I thought, “Why not? I could use a second purifier!” I’d been moving the only one I have between my living room on good days and my bedroom on the days I’m more comfortable in bed. Once I read about their medical grade technology, I realized it actually does even more than the one I already have! So they sent me the AirMax8L, a medical grade air purifier that actually cleans the air of odors, allergens, germs, bacteria and volatile organic compounds in spaces as large as 800 square feet.
I demonstrate some of the benefits of this unit in this YouTube video, along with how easy it is to set up and operate the AirMax8L. If you prefer, you can read the same information below the video.
The Okaysou AirMax8L
The Okaysou AirMax8L is a medical grade purifier. It does everything your average HEPA filter does, but it does it down to .25 microns, instead of .3, making it extremely efficient at eliminating smoke, dust, dander, pollen, and other allergens, along with deodorizing the air. Where it goes above and beyond most air purifiers is that it has an ultra-duo filtration system, which uses 5 types of filters.
In addition to removing allergens and odors, it’s antimicrobial filter has a 99.9% sterilization rate, taking out dangerous germs and bacteria. The honeycomb activated carbon filter absorbs harmful gases, such as formaldehyde, ammonia, benzene and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) while the cold catalyst filter works to break these substances down. I can’t stress how important this is for people with mast cell activation disorders or multiple chemical sensitivities.
Fresh Air, Fast
Even when we evacuate an area where these chemicals are in use to protect ourselves, they can linger for hours afterward. Not with the AirMax8L. It can accommodate spaces as large as 800 square feet room! At 800 square feet, the unit recycles the air 1.5x per hour. In 500 square feet, it recycles at a remarkable 3x an hour while it can clear a 320 square foot space 5x an hour. 800 square feet more than covers my open living area which includes my living room, kitchen and dining space.
The AirMax8L achieves this with an advanced turbine motor, creative internal structure, larger air inlet area (14.17 x 9.52 inches) and an incredible 5 filters fit into two filter units. These components work together to take in more air and effectively remove pet hair, stubborn odors, smoke and wild fire in your home, relieving unpleasant symptoms like runny nose, congestion, shortness of breath and sneezing. If you have a mast cell disorder, keeping histamine exposure to a minimum can go a long way to reduce the many other symptoms of mast cell degranulation, such as systemic inflammation and migraine. I find it especially helpful for the dry eye and irritation airborne allergens create.
The AirMax8L is also 100% ozone free, making it an environmentally friendly unit. It’s also easy on the ears, creating only a nice low hum at 22-51 decibels, while it’s compact size makes it unobtrusive.
The AirMax8L is also CE, FCC, ETL, and CARB certified, so you can feel confident this unit offers the medical grade protection needed with a respiratory ailment.
The features don’t stop there with this incredibly affordable unit. The unit comes with a child-lock, which is great for kids and animals alike. My other air purifier is lacking a child lock and my cat likes to stand on it and play with the buttons! It’s great to have a unit only the human adults can control.
It also has a sleep mode, a timer ranging from 1 to 8 hours, a filter replacement indicator, and auto shut-off protection to help keep your home and family safe, even when you’re away. You’ll also get the advantages of a 5-year warranty plus lifetime US based customer support to help protect your investment. Just make sure to register within 30 days of purchase. If for some reason you aren’t happy with your purchase, they also have a 30 day money back guarantee.
The AirMax8L is also easy to assemble when it arrives. You just remove the filters and their outer wrapping before you pop them back in place, close it up, plug it in and it’s ready to use. It’s easy to tell which side should go in first, as you want to leave their pull tabs facing outward for easy removal later. If you have any difficulty, just check out my video review at the top, where I demonstrate the easy set-up of the Okaysou AirMax8L.
Regular replacement of the Duo-filter (B07KCBGRS2) and Ultra-filter (B07KC81LCN) every 6-8 months allows you to maintain optimum purification performance. It may sound like a unit with so many filters would run you quite the sum in replacement filters, but since you only have to replace the filters a couple of times a year and they’re affordably priced, they aren’t too hard on the wallet. The Okaysou Premium Program makes replacement easy through automatic delivery. You can have your filters delivered as often as monthly, up to every 6 months, while saving 10% off the filter price. If you prefer, you can also buy replacement filters through Amazon.
We’ve been using the AirMax8L a couple of weeks now and so far, we love it. The first thing I found really surprising was how well it eliminates odors. The day after we got it, I cooked some bacon in the microwave. I love bacon, but I hate how it lingers, sometimes for a whole day, mostly because it makes me hungry! I was blown away when a half hour after dinner I realized I couldn’t smell it anymore.
Remarkably, my husband’s coffee no longer bothers me, either. With MCAS and migraines alike, it’s very easy for smells to cause symptoms. Nothing makes me quite so sick as freshly brewed coffee; a definite downer for my coffee-loving husband. Now he can brew it anytime without worrying about triggering my migraine or nausea.
Of course what really convinced me just happened yesterday. We had a plumbing leak, from something called a copper stack (from what I can tell, it’s a big sewage pipe that runs down the whole building and a piece of it had cracked). When they replaced it yesterday, they used some sort of chemical sealant and I felt like I was going to suffocate, so I slapped on my mask and opened the windows for a couple of hours. There was still a lingering odor when I closed them up, but I put the AirMax8L close to the bathroom and by the time my husband got home a couple of hours later, neither of us could detect anymore smell.
In the past, I would have had to open all the windows and leave the apartment, at least overnight. I also could have easily ended up spending the night in the ER. But last night, I got to sleep in my own bed! I wasn’t completely a-symptomatic, but with a little benadryl and the AirMax, I was happy to be able to stay home and not waste our grocery money on a hotel room that’s just as likely to cause similar symptoms.
It’s also been a pleasure to enjoy cleaner air throughout my home. I love that the AirMax8L takes care of most of my home all on its own and it’s definitely made a difference in my histamine levels, despite already having one air purifier. I had to laugh when I watched my unboxing video. I sniffled my way through it, but when I shot the remainder a couple of weeks later, there was no sniffling to be found!
Other Okaysou Air Purifier Options
With the AirMax8L, you’ll likely only need a second purifier for the bedroom to gain total protection of your living environment. Okaysou’s AirMic4S is a great, affordable solution for smaller rooms. The AirMic4S can clean a 300 square foot area 3x an hour. There is also four different filter options for this unit so you can ensure your primary objective is achieved.
If you need a medical grade unit for an even larger area, The AirMax 10L can recycle a 1,000 square foot area in an hour, making it a great choice for an open office or work area, or the main floor of larger homes.
